ABOUT TRACY
Tracy Dawson is an award-winning actress, screenwriter and author. Her book, Let Me Be Frank: A Book About Women Who Dressed Like Men to Do Shit They Weren’t Supposed to Do, was published by HarperCollins in 2022. BuzzFeed called it “An entertaining, astonishing collection…wholly inspiring,” and actress Amber Tamblyn raved: “F*cking hilarious.”
Tracy began her career on the alternative comedy stages of Toronto. She is an alumnus of the renowned Second City in Toronto, as well as the Shaw Festival, the second largest repertory theatre company in North America.
In 2009, Tracy's play, them & us, was produced by the prestigious Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto. That same year she won an emerging TV writer award at the Banff World Television Festival. She was both a writer and lead actor on the Canadian sitcom, Call Me Fitz and won both the Gemini Award and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work opposite Jason Priestley on that show.
Tracy starred in the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Ben Elton musical The Boys in the Photograph at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and Toronto’s historic Royal Alexandra Theatre. Fans of Disney Halloween movies will know Tracy as the evil Deimata from the cult classic, Girl vs Monster (2012.)
Tracy has worked as a writer on both American and Canadian television series and she has sold and developed several of her own TV projects on both sides of the border. She has been a TV and screenwriting mentor at CineStory in Idyllwild, California and is a guest lecturer at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She recently traveled to Luxembourg to present a masterclass at the 2024 Luxembourg Film Festival alongside actress Vicky Krieps. In 2025, Tracy travels to Italy where she will mentor screenwriters at the Nostos Screenwriting Retreat, and she has been selected to be the University of Calgary's Writer in Residence for the 2025-26 academic year. Tracy is also a passionate writing coach, helping writers complete a first draft, develop a pitch or book proposal, or providing detailed notes on a screenplay or TV pilot. She was born in Ottawa, Canada, and currently lives in Los Angeles with her life partner Isaac, who is a dog
